Why OKLab mixing?

Most online mixers average the raw RGB channel values, which produces dull, muddy midpoints. Blue and yellow famously average to plain gray (#808080). That happens because RGB numbers don’t correspond to how we perceive color.

This mixer interpolates in OKLab, a perceptually uniform color space, so the blend keeps its perceived lightness and colorfulness all the way across. The result is the smooth, natural transition you would expect from mixing real pigments of light, and every point on the slider is a usable color.
